Mimosa (piccolo solo)

Not to be mistaken with a kind of drink, Mimosa is a dedication to one of the best piccolo players, Sheila Smail at University of Houston during the collaboration of composition and flute department at University of Houston in the fall of 2009. Mimosa, derived from the Greek word mimos, meaning “mimic,” is a plant that  folds its leaves when touched or exposed to heat. This piccolo solo is heavily influenced by the tonal and formal structure of repertoires of Chinese bamboo flute.
