“A Bittersweet Smile” is an exploration of the sounds of the guitar especially in the realms of multiple stops and harmonics. The harmonic language of the work is inspired by the gamelan scales. This recording was the premiere of the work during the New Music Festival at Western Illinois University in 2024 by Matt Sargent at the WIU COFAC Recital Hall.
