This is a recording of the premiere performance “In the Blink of an Eye” during the 38th New Music Festival at Western Illinois University in 2025 by Marilyn Shrude and John Sampen.
“In the Blink of an Eye” for soprano saxophone and piano is a dedication to Marilyn Shrude and John Sampen. The work is inspired by the percussive nature of the piano and the timbre of the saxophone that resembles that of the sine wave when played softly. The continuum of the sounds in the work is achieved by the seamless and soft emergence of the sine wave-like saxophone entrances triggered by the percussive piano attacks throughout the work.
